The project brief under the Pradhan Mantri Swastha Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) called for a 300-bedded Super Specialty Hospital and a 200-bedded Emergency and Trauma Hospital on two adjacent but separated sites linked by an internal road. Two distinct buildings are connected by link corridors at upper floor levels, allowing cross-utilisation of shared facilities while maintaining independent entries and operational identity. A roundabout manages the convergence of doctor, visitor, and service traffic. Vertical circulation cores are placed at all corners and at the centre; a ramp enables movement for mobility-impaired persons and patient evacuation. The two blocks are interconnected at floors 2, 3, 4, and 5. Floor-to-floor height is 3,750mm; the OT floor has 4,200mm clear height for services. All floors have beam-free corridors to allow services to run above false ceilings. The façade uses two-tone grit finish in Dholpur and Jaisalmer stone with large glass panels. Low-E insulated glass minimises heat gain. Solar panels were incorporated for water heating and non-critical electrical loads. #### Medanta Ganganagar Hospital, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan [https://www.manchanda.net/projects/medanta-ganganagar] - **Typology:** Super Specialty Hospital (Private) - **Beds:** 200 - **Built-Up Area:** 1,67,000 sq.ft. - **Project Cost:** Rs. 72 Crore - **Status:** Completed 2018 A 200-bedded super specialty private hospital designed to the latest standards in healthcare technology. The building adopts an H-shaped plan, which creates distinct departmental zones while keeping vertical circulation central and allowing a future expansion block to be added. Orientation maximises glazing on north and south elevations while shading the east and west faces from heat gain. The H-shape courtyard configuration provides natural light and cross-ventilation to almost the entire building. Infection-control finishes (antibacterial paint, large-format minimal-joint tiles) are used throughout wards, ICUs, and waiting areas in a subtle orange-and-white colour scheme. MEP systems were designed for robustness and maintainability in a location with limited access to specialist service engineers. Energy efficiency measures include insulated glass, high-efficiency HVAC chillers, and wastewater recycling. #### Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, New Delhi [https://www.manchanda.net/projects/sgmh] - **Typology:** Government Hospital — Maternity, Child, and Emergency Extension - **Beds:** 176 (125-bedded Maternity and Child Block + 26-bedded Emergency Block) - **Built-Up Area:** 2,18,300 sq.ft. - **Project Cost:** Rs. 25.18 Crore - **Status:** Completed 2007 This project extended an existing 100-bedded government general hospital (commissioned 1986) with specialist Maternity and Child facilities that the hospital lacked. The Maternity and Child Block is a long multi-storied building placed parallel to existing structures for climatic and aesthetic coherence. It accommodates OPD, X-ray, and pharmacy on lower levels, with wards, labour rooms, and operation theatres on upper levels; basement houses the air-conditioning plant room and secondary electrical substation. A separate 26-bedded Emergency Ward Block was also added, containing an examination hall, minor OT, emergency wards, and laboratories across the lower three floors of a seven-storey structure, linked at ground floor level to the existing casualty and OT blocks. Staff accommodation was expanded: a four-storey nurses' hostel extension (29 additional rooms, total 50) and a new seven-storey doctors' hostel (24 single rooms for junior doctors, 27 two-room units for senior doctors, common room, and dining with kitchen). #### S. L. Minda Memorial Hospital, Hisar, Haryana [https://www.manchanda.net/projects/minda-hospital] - **Typology:** CSR-funded General Hospital (Rural) - **Beds:** 50 (Phase 1); Phase 2 envisages 50 additional beds and a Nursing College - **Built-Up Area:** 47,500 sq.ft. - **Project Cost:** Rs. 16.25 Crore - **Status:** Completed 2017 - **Client:** Moga Devi Minda Charitable Trust (CSR initiative of UNO MINDA and SPARK MINDA group) A CSR-funded hospital at Bagla Village, 25 km outside Hisar, designed to provide the rural population with modern hospital facilities at a human scale. The brief required the building to be fully equipped but not overpowering in appearance. The 3-storey structure is organised around a landscaped central courtyard that provides natural light and ventilation throughout. Zoning separates OPD, Emergency, and Administration at ground level; Wards and ICU at first floor; and Operation Theatres and Birthing Centre at the top for operational privacy. Building orientation maximises north and south glazing with deep-set windows; cavity wall construction reduces heat gain. Only critical clinical areas are air-conditioned; the remainder is naturally ventilated. #### Apollo Cradle and Apollo Spectra, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh - **Typology:** Mother and Child Hospital + Multi Specialty Hospital (Private) - **Beds:** 50 #### District Hospital Namchi, Namchi, Sikkim - **Typology:** District Hospital (Government) - **Beds:** 500 #### District Hospital Singtam, Singtam, Sikkim - **Typology:** District Hospital (Government) - **Beds:** 300 #### Tashicholing Hospital, Samtse, Bhutan - **Typology:** Hospital (International — Government of Bhutan) #### Bone and Joint Hospital, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir - **Typology:** Orthopaedic Hospital (World Bank Project) - **Beds:** 160 #### Cancer Block — S.
